Factory Tips

Don't use an elevator during a fire

  • If you discover or hear the fire alarm, stop work immediately and get everyone out to leave calmly from the nearest exit (Participate in fire drills to familiarise yourself)
  • Always have the proper fire fighting equipment in the factory. Do not block or cover the fire fighting equipment at any time.
  • Comply with NO SMOKING rules at all times. Usually, there are designated safe locations for smokers. Carelessly thrown cigarette butts are common causes of fire.
  • Ensure that the relevant HOT WORK PERMIT has been obtained before any hot work, like welding, gas cutting, etc, where heat is applied and sparks are generated, can proceed.
  • Do not overload electrical outlets with too many extensions.
  • Electrical wiring should be well insulated and maintained.
  • Use only approved safety containers when transporting, storing and handling of flammable liquids and do not leave it exposed in open containers.
  • Obtain Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) of chemicals and understand their hazards and the precautions to be taken.
  • A neat and tidy workplace helps prevent fire. Inspect the premises for the hazards at the end of each day.
  • Switch off electrical supply and electrical equipment when not in use.
  • Do not let waste materials e.g. oil soaked rags, combustible shavings, oil spills, etc. accumulate around machinery.
  • Do not lock or block fire exits. Keep the passageway and exits free from obstruction at all times.
  • Place gas cylinders away from sources of heat or fire.

  • Do not obstruct fire exit, staircases and passageways at any time.
  • Do not leave electrical and gas appliances unattended and switch off electricity supply when not in use.
  • Never leave heated appliances unattended.
  • Always maintain and have proper fire fighting equipment installed in the warehouse.
  • Flammable substances must be stored and handled properly. Use only approved safety containers
  • Observe good housekeeping habits. A neat and tidy workplace helps prevent fire.

Office Tips

  • Provide sufficient non-combustible ashtrays and ensure that they are emptied daily.
  • Observe the NO SMOKING sign.
  • Never leave heated appliances unattended.
  • Do not overload electrical outlet or extend electrical wiring without approval of the authorities.
  • When you hear the fire alarm stop work immediately and leave calmly from the nearest exit.
  • Always have and maintain proper fire fighting equipment in the office.
  • Do not block fire fighting equipment or exit doors in the office.
