Factory Tips
- If you discover or hear the fire alarm, stop work immediately and get everyone out to leave calmly from the nearest exit (Participate in fire drills to familiarise yourself)
- Always have the proper fire fighting equipment in the factory. Do not block or cover the fire fighting equipment at any time.
- Comply with NO SMOKING rules at all times. Usually, there are designated safe locations for smokers. Carelessly thrown cigarette butts are common causes of fire.
- Ensure that the relevant HOT WORK PERMIT has been obtained before any hot work, like welding, gas cutting, etc, where heat is applied and sparks are generated, can proceed.
- Do not overload electrical outlets with too many extensions.
- Electrical wiring should be well insulated and maintained.
- Use only approved safety containers when transporting, storing and handling of flammable liquids and do not leave it exposed in open containers.
- Obtain Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) of chemicals and understand their hazards and the precautions to be taken.
- A neat and tidy workplace helps prevent fire. Inspect the premises for the hazards at the end of each day.
- Switch off electrical supply and electrical equipment when not in use.
- Do not let waste materials e.g. oil soaked rags, combustible shavings, oil spills, etc. accumulate around machinery.
- Do not lock or block fire exits. Keep the passageway and exits free from obstruction at all times.
- Place gas cylinders away from sources of heat or fire.
